The Game - Introduction
What is this project about?
This unit will assess your overall skill and capability in ICT. There are a number of tasks to complete, each of which will be used to assess your progress in ict. It is important that you put in your best effort with each task.
You have to create a game aimed at students of an age of your choosing. You will need to create the game and all marketing and display materials ,and finally contact people to let them know about it.
You need to consider which parts of the process of putting together the game, advertising the game and selling the game can be helped by computerisation.
Many games:
- Are saved to CD or DVD and placed inside display cases
- Include user guides
- Are costed to find out how much money can be made.
- Have adverts placed in magazines, at bus stops and might be seen on TV or in the cinema
- Will have a launch - potential sellers of the game (shops) will be contacted so that they know about the game
- Have a 'rating' - the game is clearly labelled to explain who the audience is.
Before you start!
An important
aspect of the assessment of this project is the way you organise your folders
and files for the project. Create a folder called "The Game" inside your ICT
folder. From now on, all files for this project should be saved here. In
addition, you may want to include folders inside this folder to further organise
your work (for example a folder called "images" into which all graphics used are
stored.
You should also use SENSIBLE file names when saving work - do not leave space in files names - one good way is to place an underline in file names, for example "user_guide.doc".
What level am I working at?
You are working at level 4 if you can create a game with a label/cover and advertising poster. The game will have interactivity.
You are working at level 5 if you can create and test a game, and locate and store the names of potential customers (shops) using suitable computerised format. You can design some publicity materials suitable for the intended audience. You can describe the sequence of events/stages that need to take place to produce a computer game.
You are working at level 6 if you can plan, create and test a game that is fully interactive. You can design some publicity materials using appropriate text and images suitable for the intended audience, including a mail merge to potential customers. You can describe the sequence of events that need to take place to produce a computer system.
