'THE YEAR 7 PARTY' What you will do This unit concentrates on setting up a model of the operation of a school party using a spreadsheet in Excel. Look at this PowerPoint show to see what is involved. Task 1 Publisher Do this tutorial in using Publisher to make tickets, invites and banners. DO NOT PRINT ANYTHING!!! You will not have a price for your tickets yet, but leave a space for it!!! Task 2 Putting together the publicity materials Use what you have learned to create the 'publicity materials' for your party. Try to use a 'house style' - that is, similar images, fonts, borders and colours. Task 3 getting some food pricesBefore you start, look at this PowerPoint show about spreadsheets Collect information about food cost, room costs and disco hire. Use these on line food store links to help you find the cost of things for a great party! Click on the logos to go there. Try to compare costs and get the best prices! You will need to enter the postcode BA1 5JU to make it work. Enter the food type and costs into a spreadsheet like this.
Task 4 Finding costsLook at this model for finding the ticket price for a disco. To find prices with spreadsheets you need first to look at this page about suing something called Goal Seek. To keep the price affordable you will use a spreadsheet to enter costs and then change them to help you find a reasonable cost for a ticket t your party. Spreadsheets can be very useful for this! Before making the party spreadsheet, you are going to have a quick look at how a spreadsheet can track your pocket money. Open up this spreadsheet and enter the numbers required - see how the spreadsheet does not have be set up each time - you can "model" different ways of spending your money. Read more about this project here. Here is another spreadsheet set up to show you how you can model things. Task 5 the party spreadsheetNow you will use Excel to plan the costs of your party. Enter your data like this:
A data file to use called PARTY is located here. Task 6 Final versionsOnce you have found the cost for your party, you must complete the Publisher documents to show the ticket costs. When you have done this, ask your teacher to check your work, then print out your final versions. Task 7 Computer systems - what are they? You have created a simple working computer system - read about computer systems here. Task 8 On line modelsRun through this exercise to find out how models on the internet can be used. Task 8 EvaluationWrite an evaluation of your work. Click here to get a copy of the template or use this blank form to write on. What level have you achieved?Look at examples of work and check your level here!
